Effective Use of Computer Marketing
As with many other industries, the independent computer
professional must be able to gain excellent understanding of their
target market to effectively use computer marketing.
The first step is to correctly identify your target market.
Customer satisfaction and loyalty are the economic justifications
for any company. The only way to arrive at customer satisfaction and
business success is by spending adequate time and effort on defining
the market.
Marketing experts define market as the segment of the total
population that has interest in the product, purchasing ability, and
is permitted by law to acquire the product. Accurately defining the
market is crucial to computer marketing. All too often market
research efforts yield tons of survey statistics, rhetoric, and
wasted dollars.
By implementing the optimal approach to segmentation of the
target market, these mistakes can be avoided. Market definition is
an ongoing process, as the only thing that is constant is change.
Therefore, the process of computer marketing must be dynamic, not
static.
Ask the Right Questions
The computer marketing analysis should start by asking questions
about what you want to accomplish in the market, not about the
analysis. By having criteria that defines your goals, you can easily
identify the perfect customers, or your target market for computer
marketing.
Segmentation should predict customer behavior in the market.
Simply put you want to know why customers buy what they buy so you
can sell products and/or services. Attempt to stay away from
segments that are too broad or abstract to be useful.
Understanding your target market can only come by truly gaining a
picture of their perceived needs and current situations. This can be
accomplished by research, online surveys, and interviews.
Analyzing the data obtained should reveal common variances that
will allow you to view a specific combination of needs, thus
identifying your target market.
