Know the risks of using printer cartridge refills and remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges.

Many small business owners swear by the cost-saving concept of purchasing refilled and remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges, but I am not among them.

Knock Off Supplies and Printer Cartridge Refills Are Not Cheap

Since dot matrix printers became as extinct as the dodo bird in the early ‘90s, I’ve owned several inkjet and laser printers. Although I sometimes wish the printer manufacturers’ supply prices were lower, I’ve never regretted paying for quality printer supplies.

Of course, I actively seek out any sales, promotions or rebates on genuine printer consumables. But, as a technology professional, I just don’t consider the cost savings of knock off printer supplies to be worth the risk.

Printer Cartridge Refills vs. Minimizing Repair Costs

In all my years, I’ve never had a messy inkjet or toner spill. I’ve also hardly ever needed to repair printers, and the printers I’ve purchased generally have become obsolete before a repair was needed.

So, ultimately, I’ve kept my printer support costs exceptionally low. I know there are other care and feeding factors to consider, but I attribute a major portion of this success to sticking with the recommended printer supplies.
